Dear Candle Lovers,

Did you know that Mother's Day dates back to early civilizations?  Over the years of history the intention of the day has evolved.  When the English came to America they dropped the celebration of "Mothering Day."  It appears that our early settlers did not focus on the secular holidays but focused on a "no frills" devotion to God.  The Civil War motivated Juliet Howe to call on Mothers to come together and save the family.  She called for an international Mother's Day celebrating peace and motherhood.

Anna M. Jarvis campaigned for an official Mother's Day remembrance after her mother died.  In 1908, she petitioned her church leader and her request was honored.  So, on May 10, 1908, the first official Mother's Day celebration took place.

Anna Jarvis devoted herself to the creation of Mother's Day nationwide. In 1914, Woodrow Wilson signed Mother's Day into a national observance, declaring the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day.

Many families have created their own traditions for Mother's Day.  Gift giving is common.  What do you give the Mom, Grandma, Aunt, or Godmother who has no real needs?  A personalized candle is always a welcomed, unique and useful gift.  Our 16 oz. candles in apothecary jars are not only a perfect gift; they remain a keepsake when a favorite photo is added.  Purchasing these gift is an economical way to celebrate the women in your lives.
