March 2011 | Volume 4, Issue 2 Dear Candle Lovers: When we think of March, many of us will think of St. Patrick’s Day or the “Eyes of March”. What are some of the Traditions of this Holiday? We could eat corned beef and cabbage; we could also eat soda bread and green food; we could also watch Irish Dancers in a St. Patrick’s Day Parade; and, if you are lucky enough to live in Chicago, you could watch the river turn green—a tradition over 40 years old! There are other traditions that are taken directly from the “old land”. Legend has it that Saint Patrick used three-leaf clovers to illustrate the concept of the Trinity (the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit). They are abundant in Ireland, which is why they became a symbol of St. Patrick's Day. Four-leaf clovers are rare and are therefore considered lucky. According to the National Leprechaun Museum in Dublin, Ireland, if you can catch a leprechaun, he is obliged to tell you where his gold is stashed. But keep a close eye on him; legend has it he's liable to disappear if you look away! As always, each holiday is a great time to burn a candle and commemorate any and all traditions with our assortment of scents! We all know that St. Patrick’s Day is a day when we are all Irish. May we all remember this March 17th as a day as special as “My Wild Irish Rose” day! 26 oz.
